The Community Comes Together to Devote a Yoga Class to Willen Hospice

15, Aug 2016

Today, over 250 yogi’s dressed in festival attire demonstrated their love for the practice in an outdoor class lead by Whitespace Yoga and Wellbeing Studio at the iconic Peace Pagoda in aid of Willen Hospice.

The al fresco yoga class was the biggest success yet, bringing joy to a mixture of experiences. Everyone from young children, grandparents and even dogs took part – all with a sprinkle of glitter and a dab of festival style make-up from Bryony Butler & Charley Payne MUA.

The class was followed by a special yogi summer picnic with music, hula-hooping, face-painting and handstands, with a great community spirit. Local businesses came together to meet and eat, enjoying tasty treats from Saf’s Kitchen, The Broken Spoon and Deli Vegeteria. For a small contribution to charity, yogis were able to further relax their mind and body with reflexology from The Foot Whisperer and massages from Lush.

The Yoga Social helped raise over £1000 for Willen Hospice, a charity very dear to the local community’s hearts.

Deborah Berryman, Founder and Director of Whitespace Yoga and Wellbeing Studio commented: “Today has been such great fun. We are overwhelmed by the generosity of our fabulous yogis which has helped us to make such a wonderful donation to Willen Hospice. We had the biggest turn out yet which is hugely rewarding and everyone who took part really got behind the festival theme, arriving in great spirit, lots of glitter and colourful outfits – they look amazing! We are so incredibly delighted to have had so many people come along and try out yoga with us at the Peace Pagoda – it’s a truly wonderful place to practice.”

Berryman continues: “Yoga is a great way to feel great. We really encourage everyone to come and try yoga out at the studio. Whitespace offer a free taster class for those new to yoga which allows an ideal chance to give it a go.”

Dawn Clark, Fundraising Manager at Willen Hospice commented: “We’d like to offer our deepest thanks to Deborah and the team from Whitespace Yoga and Wellbeing Studio for their on-going support over the past six years. Today has been a great success, and without the support and dedication of people like this across the community, Willen Hospice would not be able to continue to offer our specialist care to patients and their families. Once again, thank you from all at Willen Hospice.”
